Purpose Preparatory Academy Featured In Children's Book Series

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 1, 2019) – Purpose Preparatory Academy Founder and Head of School, Lagra Newman, and her mother, Claudia Newman, have co-authored the first book in a new series about the talented scholars of Purpose Prep, a K-4th grade public charter school in North Nashville. The book, titled Aniyah Zackery and Her Winning Spirit to Be Number One, vividly brings to life the engaging learning environment of Purpose Prep. On Monday, November 4, 2019 at 9:15AM, the authors will host the official book launch at the school (220 Venture Circle Nashville, TN 37228) where all students and staff will receive a free signed copy of the book.

“I am proud of the achievements of our students at Purpose Prep, which is predominately comprised of African-American children from North Nashville,” says Lagra Newman, Founder and Head of School. “I knew it would be powerful to tell the stories of their brilliance, to narrate their journey of academic excellence, and to enable their experiences to come alive in the homes and classroom libraries of children who can never be too often reminded of their capabilities and potential."

Claudia Newman has witnessed first-hand the energy and excellence at work throughout the halls and classrooms, which inspired her to write stories about the students of Purpose Prep. “Books are gifts that keep on giving,” Claudia emphasizes. “It has been such a joy to showcase our scholars and affirm their identity through positive representation, which will live long beyond their years spent at Purpose Prep.”

Published by Mynd Matters, the book is now available online at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Purpose Prep relies on the support of the local community to help assist in providing high quality education to K-4th grade scholars within Davidson County.
